Capped by law

Per notarial act — acknowledgment, verification on oath, witnessing a signature, certifying a copy, or administering an oath. Certifying a copy is itself a chargeable act here, unlike states that bar it.

$25 instead
A remote online notarization is capped at $25 per act — a substitute rate, not an addition. It replaces the $10 for those acts rather than stacking on it.

Travel — by statute
Agreed first
Oregon requires the notary to tell you a travel charge is on top of the notarial fee and isn't set by law, and requires you to agree the amount beforehand. The fee list has to be displayed or handed to you before the act.

What Oregon records
Oregon notaries journal every act as it happens and keep it ten years.
The entry records the fee charged and the expiry date of the identification shown. A paper journal must be a bound register with numbered pages, and a notary may keep more than one.

What counts as one notarial act?
Each acknowledgment, each verification on oath or affirmation, each signature witnessed, each copy certified, and each oath administered. Five acts at one appointment is five fees.

How does the remote fee work?
It substitutes: up to $25 per act for a remote online notarization, in place of the $10, not added to it.

Does the notary have to tell me about travel first?
Yes — and this is the one state on this site where that's the law rather than our policy. The notary must explain that the travel charge is additional and not set by law, you must agree the amount in advance, and the notary's fee list must be displayed or given to you to read before the act.

I think I was overcharged. What do I do?
The Secretary of State takes complaints about Oregon notaries and can refer an investigation to the Attorney General. Know before you file: a complaint isn't anonymous in Oregon — it's a public record and a copy goes to the notary. Money and criminal matters still belong in the courts.
